Who is "The Mike"?
About Me
I'm Mike Fuller: A humble cadet of science and fellow spacetime traveler.
Alleged Scholar
In 2002, I enrolled in the local branch of a state university that took just about anyone who applied for a loan, so I meet many incredible people and made a couple good friends for life. During, around, and after that time I become a father of three handsome fellows. I seem to remember finishing my degree near the start of the first Obama administration. An associates in business computer technology; something like that. My mom put it in a frame and everything.
While I have fond memories of that time, especially the social aspect, I don't feel like I gained much practical experience or knowledge in that particular environment. Certainly less than the high school computer networking trade program I was enrolled in before college. The thirst for wonder has been the real driving force in acquiring life-long knowledge and really harnessing that information and putting it to practical use is something you have to want to do and work hard to achieve.
Podcaster, Producer, Programmer
In the early 2010s, I recorded and produced a number of podcasts with good friends and enlightening guests. I was once quoted saying, "If you want to be a famous podcaster it's a good idea to already be famous." The nature of our shows gave me the creative freedom to write and produce segments, bits, and formulas for our on-air antics.
There was likely always an intent to do something with computers. I lost a decade to a dead-end, 2nd-shift career outside the field. After work, I'd spend late nights that turned into early mornings coding and building; developing and learning the pathways to solving problems with programming. It makes you feel like within the confines of that world (and sometimes outside it) you can do almost anything.
Even before I started coding professionally, I was passionate about open source software. I specialize in building libraries for backend API development, frontend web development, database management, real-time communications, and encryption. Some of these libraries have been open sourced on my GitHub repositories.
All that being said, building websites for my clients is what puts food on the table. if you can't explain what you do in one sentence there is probably a problem with your job.
A Studious Man of Action
In recent years I've worked hard to lose the bad habits, burn some of the old bridges, and experience new ways to improve my physical and intellectual fitness. I walk, jog, or run every day and try to spend more and more time outdoors.
I went on a deep dive into the world of personal self defense, shooting sports, and firearms. Shooting is a perishable skill and requires physical and mental discipline. Learning the science of firearms and the art of their engineering has also been a rewarding, hands-on experience.
In 2023, I focused on the art of HAM radio, earning a Technician Class Amateur Radio License. Mainly I listen, experiment with packet radio, and occasionally chat with folks on the local repeaters.
Made in America
Like anyone else, my thoughts and ideas about our world have evolved over time. I feel like my opinions are open to change more rapidly than at any other point in my life. There are things I know for sure, things I learn every day, and things I think I'll never understand even while I strive to live forever.
My stance on any issue almost exclusively leans towards the preservation of individual rights. Our right to speak our peace, be heard, and be criticized should be preserved. Along with the right to personal autonomy, self-respect, and the defense of our family, our country, and ourselves. With that comes the responsibility to better ourselves and our communties every day.
I want my countrymen to remember that, before all else and despite any previous heritage or creed, we are all Americans. We can't afford to fight amongst ourselves when the challenges of tomorrow require the hands of us all.
